Heart. Papers. Border. is an optimistic 2D strategy game about traveling, freedom and changing the world.
You are a freelance adventurer who wants to experience everything planet Heart has to offer, regardless of the inherited privileges determined by the country of your birth, and by the bureaucracy and sometimes injustice that crossing so many borders means. You travel to learn, and as you pay a closer attention to what each country has to offer, you gather wisdom that you channel in a blog that grows in popularity. Eventually you come to grasp the power of your influence: where you pass, things change to the better, and locals that you have met increasingly demand openness from their governments. You have always been an optimist and dreamed of a completely border free world, but as you travel, you realize your influence into actually living to see your dream come true.
Game Modes
Heart. Papers. Border. is a single player game that cannot be lost, but it can be finished in multiple ways:
- the game ends when player turns 150 years old. This is a celebratory scene regardless of the results
- The game ends if the player managed to influence all the countries he visited to drop their borders
- the game ends if the player manages to obtain residency in all 26 countries on the map. A residency requires the player to spend 5 years in the given country.
If we validate the concept, we are also planning multiplayer support, inspired by RISK (where each player gets an Objective card) and Ticket To Ride’s mobile multiplayer support (lobby, team, leaderboards).
Currently, the game is in Early Access! There is a dev branch that grants access to more content but the public game is very limited, and has only 2 countries unlocked. The team is just 2 people in their spare time after work so development is slow…. We are sorry about that!
